Description
The Venezuelan prosecutor's office displays a banner at its headquarters in Caracas reading "USA Free Maikelys," in protest of the case involving Maikelys Espinoza. Two-year-old Espinoza was separated from her parents after being deported from the United States. Her father was transferred to the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) in El Salvador, while her mother was sent back to Venezuela. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that the girl was placed in foster care for her protection, claiming her parents were members of Venezuela's Tren de Aragua drug gang.
"It’s the worst thing that can happen to a child — to a child and their parent," says a Caracas resident. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
