Description
People go about their day at the Al-Amal Camp (formerly Al-Jadaa), south of Mosul in northern Iraq, which houses Iraqi families who have been repatriated from Syria's Al-Hol camp. "Here we feel safe and more comfortable, says a repatriated Iraqi, adding that life in Syria's Al-Hol camp "felt like being buried alive."
Upon arrival in Iraq, authorities usually keep returnees from Al-Hol, home to tens of thousands of people including family members of suspected jihadists, for weeks or even months at what officials describe as a "psychological rehabilitation" in Al-Jadaa, where they also undergo security checks.
AFP's team was escorted by employees from the camp administration during the visit and only interviewed Iraqis who were transferred to Jedaa recently. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
