Texas is taking a step toward formally renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on state maps and documents, and it comes in the form of Senate Bill 1717. The bill has passed a vote in the Senate and will now head to the House for consideration. SB 1717 follows the lead of President Donald Trump's executive order that directed federal agencies to change the name back in January.
