Hundreds of hospitality workers from across Houston are expected to meet with city leaders Wednesday to push for a minimum wage increase amid what organizers say is a tourism boom and expanding hospitality industry.
A member of the Unite Here Local 23 union told KHOU 11 that most hospitality workers in the Houston area currently earn about $16 to $17 an hour. The group is advocating for a $23 minimum wage for hotel, airport, and convention center workers.
