New video obtained by CBS 8 shows the frantic efforts to save lives after a panga boat carrying migrants capsized off the Del Mar coast early Monday morning, resulting in at least three deaths and a missing child.
The incident, which occurred around 6:30 a.m., threw all 17 occupants into the water. The footage captures the chaotic scene as several people struggle to reach the shore. Several migrants rushed back into the water to help others. In one dramatic moment, a man is seen throwing a life jacket to another person in distress.
Two women are pulled toward the shore, visibly exhausted as the current threatens to drag them back. Moments later, both women are shown on the sand, one standing and the other sitting up.
The video also depicts people performing CPR on unresponsive victims and dragging survivors to safety. In one encouraging scene, a man who initially appeared motionless shows signs of life, moving his arms after being pulled from the water.
