Colorado's white water rafting season is off to a strong start as warmer temperatures trigger earlier-than-usual snowmelt, creating optimal river conditions for the Memorial Day weekend. However, snow surveyors warn that the combination of below-normal snowpack and accelerated melting could lead to low river levels later this summer in some parts of the state. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) reports that Colorado mountains are experiencing snowmelt almost two weeks earlier than typical, providing ideal conditions for rafting operations like Liquid Descent in Idaho Springs.
