Description
A red Dodge Charger with a “new driver” sticker on the back isn’t what most drivers expect to see in their rearview mirror during a traffic stop — but it’s one of more than 50 vehicles operated by the Washington State Patrol as part of a long-running crackdown on aggressive drivers.
The vehicle is part of WSP’s Aggressive Driving Apprehension Team (ADAT), a program that’s been in place since 1998. The team uses unmarked vehicles of various makes and models — including pickups, SUVs, and muscle cars — to blend in with traffic and identify drivers who speed, tailgate, or weave through lanes.
A video captured recently by a KING 5 reporter shows an unmarked pickup truck activating lights and sirens while moving through traffic in Bellevue. Though it looks like a regular civilian vehicle, WSP confirmed it is indeed a law enforcement unit but would not specify which department or agency it’s attached to.
