Description
Beryl has remained a strong Category 4 major hurricane on Wednesday as it churns across the Caribbean Sea and approaches Jamaica. It will hit or brush just south of Jamaica on Wednesday afternoon. It will then head toward the Cayman Islands and then Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula by early Friday.
Weakening should continue with Beryl through this weekend, so it may be a low-end hurricane or tropical storm when it reaches the southwestern Gulf of Mexico this weekend. An upper high-pressure ridge over the southeast US should keep Beryl on a track into northern Mexico or southern Texas. Its eventual landfall would be late this weekend or early next week as a much weaker system than it is now.
