Description
Lee is a monster category 5 hurricane this morning. It will likely stay around this strength over the coming days. The forward motion to the WNW will continue as Lee moves along the southern part of a subtropical high. As the high weakens, the storm is expected to slow down. It won't be until we start to see a deepening trough across the OH valley and East Coast that Lee will begin moving northward. Long-range model guidance maintains it will remain off the coast of the U.S. through much of next week, but those along the New England Coast and Canada Maritimes should monitor the forecast closely. The entire East Coast will likely see rough seas, though as the storms pass to the east.
Long-range models also keep the Gulf and adjacent waters quiet through mid-September. As we tend to see the season settle for us by mid-October, that leaves 4 weeks we'll still need to keep an eye on the tropics!
