Description
WWL-TV Meteorologist Payton Malone says in Friday's tropical update that a disturbance could make its way into the Gulf of Mexico by Labor Day weekend.
As we wrap up the last week of August we don't have any tropical threats to the United States. However, there are a couple areas to watch as we head into September.
A tropical wave in the eastern Caribbean has a chance to develop next week. It's moving west through relatively low wind shear, but dry air is keeping the system from developing for now. It will move across the Caribbean through this weekend and by early/mid next week could have a slightly better chance of trying to organize in the western Caribbean. Some guidance brings the disturbance into the Gulf by Labor Day weekend, but that is by no means a guarantee. That part of the forecast is 7-10 days from now and will certainly change around over the next week. Overall, there is plenty of time to watch how things play out into next week, but we'll keep an eye on it.
