Andres Villegas, the lawyer for former Ecuadoran vice president Jorge Glas, reacts to his client's 13-year sentence for corruption, his fourth conviction. "This is the first instance. We still have a second instance, which is an appeal," Villegas tells journalists. "I have confirmed to Mr. Glas that I will not abandon him, the team will not abandon him," he adds.
Glas, 55, served as vice president from 2013 to 2017 under former socialist leader Rafael Correa and also briefly served as vice-president under Correa's successor Lenin Moreno before being forced from office in 2017. SOUNDBITES
