Description
Former Prime Minister and Guinean opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo says in an interview with AFP that his party will "boycott" the constitutional referendum scheduled for 21 September, citing "conditions for a fair and just referendum are not met". Diallo accuses the military junta of attempting to extend its hold on power. The referendum takes place under the leadership of General Mamadi Doumbouya, who has ruled Guinea since the 2021 coup. Doumbouya had previously promised to return power to civilians at the end of a transition period, now set to conclude with the adoption of a new constitution. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
