German Chancellor Friedrich Merz commemorates the the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Central Council of Jews in Germany at a reception in the Jewish Museum Berlin. Merz calls for a determined stand against anti-Semitism in a speech, citing Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed at least 1,219, but led to a retaliatory Israeli invasion of Gaza that has so far killed at least 65,000 Palestinians.
