Description
In her Pakistan safehouse, music is a solace for Afghan refugee Shayma and her bandmates who dream of one day reaching the United States. They, and thousands of other Afghan refugees, have been stranded in Pakistan after President Trump indefinitely suspended refugee admissions. They now face the prospect of being forced to return to Afghanistan as Pakistan renews its deportation drive. Under the Taliban's rule, girls and women are widely forbidden from singing and having their voices head in public. "When I play music, especially when I improvise, I can show my feelings and lot of my experiences in it," Shayma tells AFP. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
