Description
The White House doubled down Wednesday on its insistence that President Donald Trump has been "transparent" with regard to the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case, telling reporters he has "followed through on his promises to the American people."
"He has said in agreement with some of the leaders on Capitol Hill that if the Attorney General and the Department of Justice come across any other credible evidence, they should provide that to the American people. The President has said that, and he agrees with them on that," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters at the briefing.
But Leavitt said the president does not support a special prosecutor for a full probe into case.
"The president would not recommend a special prosecutor in the Epstein case," she said. "That's how he feels."
The remarks come as the White House faces increased scrutiny from Trump's own MAGA supporters over his administration's handling of the Epstein probe.
On Wednesday, Trump lashed out at his own supporters, accusing them of being duped by Democrats and calling the sec trafficking investigation a "hoax", as he tries to clamp down on the growing criticism.
