Sponsored by: Allstate | With summer road trip season in full swing and as millions of Americans hit the road, the 2025 Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report reveals surprising trends in driving behavior across the country. Which regions do you think have the safest drivers, which fall short and how do San Diego drivers stack up? Lifestyle Expert Trae Bodge joins our Laura Cavanaugh to share important information from Allstate on the country’s safest and riskiest cities for drivers and money-saving tips for staying safe behind the wheel.
Safety behind the wheel can really pay off. Many insurers, including Allstate, will reward you for a clean driving record. If you are looking for a new car, choose cars with modern safety features like lane assistance.
As summer road trip season shifts into high gear, you might want to consult Allstate’s 2025 America’s Best Drivers Report first. According to the report, you might want to steer clear of Boston.
It was ranked America’s most collision-prone city in Allstate’s latest report. Everything is apparently bigger and safer in Texas. Texas leads the pack in safe driving, with Brownsville, Laredo, McAllen and Corpus Christi on the top 20 cities for safest drivers.
Seven of the 10 cities with the highest collision rates are located in the Northeast, including Boston, Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia. But don’t count out the West Coast. Los Angeles, Glendale and Oakland, California round out the 10 riskiest cities for drivers.
Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest ranks most improved, with drivers in Portland, Oregon and Bellevue, Washington improving greatly. Drivers in Washington, Oregon and Alaska are safer behind the wheel than they were a decade ago.
Every safe driver makes a difference. Sticking to the speed limit, prioritizing safety features when choosing your next vehicle or using a safe driving app like Allstate’s Drivewise are just a few of the ways you can protect yourself and others on the road.
“Technology is really our friend. There are so many cool features that we can take advantage of. Inside the Allstate app, there’s a feature called Drivewise that rewards good driving behaviors like smooth braking and staying off your phone,” said Bodge. “It’s been found that drivers that participate and use this feature are 25% less likely to have a collision. So these features are very effective.”
Bodge says there are three easy strategies to stay safe on the road: buckle up, stay alert and slow down.
