Aug. 6 on The Story: Since 1930, Friendly House in Northwest Portland has offered a place for everyone to be. It's a community center, but also a preschool, both housed in a single building. It currently hosts 15 kids funded through Multnomah County's Preschool for All program. But with the demand for childcare so high — and with Friendly House trying to maintain its tradition of being safe and open to everyone — they're now trying to expand by renovating the building next door into a dedicated preschool building, one that will allow for dozens more kids.
