Description
July 24 on The Story: Last week, we brought you the story of Stephanie Gomez. Homeless and addicted to fentanyl, Gomez was also nine months pregnant. She couldn't decide whether to accept help from outreach workers, even for a checkup on her health and that of her baby. Harrowing as it is, her story isn't all that unusual. The staff at Portland treatment center Fora Health say they see pregnant women coming in weekly. That's why Fora works with Project Nurture, a program meant to help women get healthy and perhaps have a safe pathway to staying in custody of their children.
