Oct. 6 on The Story: Over the weekend, President Donald Trump's attempts to send National Guard troops into Portland turned into a legal roller coaster ride. On Saturday, U.S. District Court Judge Karin Immergut — a Trump appointee from his first term — temporarily blocked the administration from mobilizing Oregon National Guard troops. But by Sunday morning, the news broke that Trump was moving California National Guard troops into Portland. And mere hours later, there came an order for Texas National Guard troops to both Portland and Chicago. In an emergency phone call Sunday night, Judge Immergut put the kibosh on all of those movements into Oregon, expanding her order to include any and all guard troops.
