Officials in Greenfield say a K-9 officer died after severely injuring an off-duty New Palestine officer Monday night. A Greenfield Police Department spokesperson said preliminary investigation shows K-9 Ace got loose from the home of his handler, Greenfield Police Ofc. Freeman, while the officer was away around 8 p.m. May 12. The spokesperson said Ace encountered a neighbor, an off-duty New Palestine police officer, and bit the officer, causing severe injury. The officer was taken to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.
