Description
Mitch Daniels says the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) – a recent federal initiative aimed at cutting bureaucratic waste – was “a good idea and a good start,” but warns that its role is fundamentally limited without deeper political will and serious structural reform.
Daniels, president emeritus of Purdue University, spoke with 13News about it Wednesday, April 23 after a conversation about the university's newly-named and "reimagined" Daniels School of Business.
Before his tenure at Purdue, Daniels was also known for belt-tightening both as Indiana’s governor and as President George W. Bush’s budget chief.
Speaking in response to a New York Times survey showing public support for reducing government waste but skepticism about DOGE’s effectiveness, Daniels highlighted Washington’s fiscal paralysis.
