Description
We are now officially in Spring, and those pesky potholes are not going away.
In fact, Indy DPW has received about 4,500 more requests through the Mayor’s Action Center this year than at this time last year.
So, what will it take to get our roads back in shape? Indy DPW said its crews are trying to keep up with the high demand.
The department said the biggest challenge was the extreme winter weather.
"The harshness of the winter is what really is going to put a spin on how our pothole season goes. This was obviously a much harsher winter compared to last year. We had a frequent freeze-thaw cycle. We had a lot of precipitation, and it lasted too,” said Kyle Bloyd, the Chief Communications Officer for Indy DPW. “You combine the harsh weather with losing 20-plus days to various weather situations and now we got a lot on our plate.”
