Description
The debate over immigration enforcement was back in the spotlight Tuesday at the Indiana Statehouse.
The Senate’s Corrections and Criminal Law Committee heard testimony about House Bill 1393 that lawmakers in the House already passed.
The committee made some changes to the original bill, which called for police arresting someone for a misdemeanor or felony with probable cause to believe the person was in the United States illegally to inform the jail staff and the county sheriff, who would be required to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
