Description
Two federal buildings in Marion County could be for sale. This comes amid the Trump Administration's massive cost-cutting measures recommended by the Department of Government Efficiency.
On Tuesday, the U.S. General Services Administration announced more than 400 properties on a list of non-core assets for disposal. On the list is the Minton-Capehart Federal Building on Pennsylvania Street in downtown Indianapolis. The primary tenants listed are the Veterans Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, and Social Security Administration. Seven brand new immigration courtrooms just opened in the building on Jan. 27.
Workers leaving the building for lunch on Thursday would not agree to be interviewed but said they are nervous about the future of the building, and their jobs.
The other Indianapolis area building on the list is the Major General Emmett J. Bean Federal Center in Lawrence. This is a massive structure on the former Fort Benjamin Harrison campus, second only in size to the Pentagon.
