Description
Gov. Mike Braun has signed an executive order demanding answers on the high spending on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children with autism.
Specifically, the order calls for a working group of parents, legislators, subject matter experts, physicians and ABA therapy providers to figure out how to save money.
The governor says the costs are growing at an unsustainable rate: In 2017, it cost about $14.4 million. The bill in 2019 was $120 million.
In a release, the governor estimated the cost would rise to $645 million in 2026. That would be more than $80,000 for each of the 8,000 children estimated to use Medicaid to access ABA therapy.
