A man accused in the killing of a Marion County Sheriff's Office deputy while in custody, is standing trial for a killing that put him behind bars. Orlando Mitchell is accused of shooting and killing the mother of his then-1-year-old son outside a day care in Indianapolis Sept. 16, 2022. Mitchell is charged with the murder of 32-year-old Krystal Walton at the Charity Child Care on the near west side of Indianapolis. Walton had just dropped off her children at Charity Child Care at 959 N. Holmes Ave., near 10th Street, when police say Mitchell shot her in the parking lot around 7:30 a.m. Police said there were multiple witnesses, including children.
