Indianapolis Metro Police have released edited body camera video of a police shooting outside an east side bar on Oct. 14, 2023. An officer, 17-year IMPD veteran Roman Ervin-Williams, responded to reports of a shooting inside Bubbaz Bar & Grill in the 10000 block of Washington Street, near the intersection with North Mitthoefer Street. The officer saw a 31-year-old man with a black object that the officer believed was a gun. The man began to raise the object, which is when the officer fired. The man was hit and taken to the hospital in critical condition. He survived, and was found not guilty by a jury in November 2024. Police did not find a gun on the man or at the scene. 13News is not naming the man since a jury found him not guilty.
