Description
A judge sentenced an Indianapolis man to 55 years – the maximum under the plea deal – for murdering his Lyft driver on the far west side of Indianapolis in June 2022.
Devin Powell pleaded guilty in court in December 2024 to the murder of 34-year-old Tony Garland, who was working as a Lyft rideshare driver on June 30, 2022, when he picked up Powell sometime after midnight. Garland's body was found around 6 a.m. that morning in the 3000 block of Rolling Dunes Drive, off Waterfront Parkway near the Interstate 465 and Interstate 74 interchange — just a few hundred yards from Powell’s apartment.
