Description
Deandra Clay-Staples danced with a group called the G3 Steppers. On Saturday, Jan. 18, her young teammates and coaches gathered to remember the 14-year-old girl who was found shot and killed outside a south Indianapolis apartment complex a week earlier.
G3 Steppers and their families gathered for prayer, a balloon release and mental health support for the girls who lost a friend. G3 stands for “Girls Growing into Greatness.” The organization uses stepping as a tool to teach life lessons while competing as a team.
But Deandra didn't get to grow into greatness. She was shot and killed and left in the snow outside the Laurelwood Apartments near Shelby Street and East Sumner Avenue on Jan. 11. Police have made no arrest in her death.
