Description
One person died in a house fire near Bloomington early Monday.
The fire was reported around 1:15 a.m. Jan. 13 in the 5100 block of South Fairfax Road, near South Walnut Street and just south of Bloomington city limits.
Responding firefighters found heavy fire coming from the front of the home, and bystanders said they had tried knocking on doors and windows to see if anyone was inside, the Monroe Fire Protection District said in a statement.
Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies told firefighters they believed an older person who didn't usually leave lived in the home, and a firefighter searched the portion of the house that wasn't yet on fire, finding an unresponsive victim in the kitchen.
