Description
The city of Indianapolis is launching a new "unified mental health response" initiative to change the way emergency services respond to a crisis.
Up to 30% of 911 calls are related to mental health, according to the Vera Institute of Justice. Those calls are often a complicated mix of safety and health issues that can be difficult for first responders.
The new unified response initiative is meant to help teams coordinate across departments to address the "complexities of mental health calls with compassion, efficiency and resources." It is activated when the city's dedicated Mobile Crisis Assistance Teams (MCAT) or Clinician Led Community Response (CLCR) teams aren't available.
