Lawrence police are investigating after officers shot a man who allegedly reached for a rifle during a traffic stop early Friday morning. The incident happened around 12:15 a.m. Dec. 27 in the 7200 block of East 52nd Street, near North Richardt Avenue. Two officers stopped a vehicle for not stopping at a stop sign on Richardt Avenue. A police spokesperson said during the interaction, the driver grabbed for a rifle that was sitting on the passenger seat. That's when both officers shot at the man, who then drove from the scene.
