Description
A massive fire at The Sanctuary on Penn Christmas Eve morning burned 150 years of downtown Indianapolis history.
Built in 1875, the former church was on the National Register of Historic Places, and that's why so many couples wanted to get married at the historic church-turned-wedding-and-event venue near the intersection of North Pennsylvania and East Walnut streets.
Michael Singer and his fiancée, Elaine Anderson, watched in disbelief.
"She came in and told me that our wedding venue just burned down and I was just like ... what?" and I just ... I just can't believe it," Singer said. "I watched it on Channel 13. She said, 'go to Channel 13,' and I saw it, and you guys had a story that morning with the flames shooting out of the top. I just was like ... you gotta be kidding me."
