Description
An Elvis Presley impersonator's conspiracy theory sets off a feud that spirals into an attempted presidential assassination.
You'd think a story with that plot was fiction until it unfolds before our eyes in the three-episode true crime docuseries "The Kings of Tupelo: A Southern Crime Saga."
Emmy-winning documentarians Chapman Way and Maclain Way ("Wild Wild Country," "Untold") traveled to Tupelo, Mississippi – where "The King of Rock & Roll" was born – to uncover the jaw-dropping scandal.
"An interesting factoid about this story is these letters are intercepted right on the heels – 24 hours – after the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013," Maclain said. "It was a big story. It still got a ton of press coverage, but it was still mostly on page two just because of the magnitude of the marathon bombing."
