Description
One man is in custody after he allegedly fired shots at officers during an almost seven-hour standoff with police inside of an east Indianapolis home Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
At around 9:30 p.m. Nov. 6, officers responded to a report of a person armed with a weapon inside of a home in the 200 block of South Gladstone Avenue, near Sherman Drive and East Washington Street.
According to IMPD, a woman reported being held at gunpoint by the suspect earlier in the day after she escaped.
When police arrived on scene, they learned the man had barricaded himself inside the house, and officers made several announcements for the man to come outside peacefully.
After the suspect refused to exit the home, IMPD requested a SWAT team and detectives to respond to the incident.
Officers used flashbangs and other tactical equipment before making their way inside moments later. Upon entering the house, police said the suspect began to shoot a gun.
IMPD says the man continued to fire the gun during the incident. Officers took him into custody around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, and he was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in "good condition."
