Meteorologist Payton Malone has the latest on possible developments in the tropics.
The National Hurricane Center is watching the northern Gulf and the Atlantic near Florida and the Carolinas for tropical development later this week. Right now, the chance of development stays low at 20 percent.
Stormy weather will linger near warm water, and that could help a weak low-pressure area start to form. For now, global models keep that low meandering near Florida through the weekend. That should keep the heaviest rain focused east of Louisiana, mainly across Florida.
