Description
A Manatee County teacher was fired a week after her arrest for sending a nude Snapchat photo to a middle school student, according to the sheriff's office.
Oliver Fell, 28, initially remained employed by the school district but was "reassigned to a position away from our school where she had no contact with students" following her arrest on June 2, the Haile Middle School principal confirmed.
But on Tuesday, the School Board of Manatee County voted unanimously to terminate Fell from her position as an ESE teacher, calling the details of the case "alarming and contemptible for anyone serving as a school teacher."
"The highest priority of the School District of Manatee County is student safety," the school district said in a statement.
The school district also said it's working with the Florida Department of Education on how to best handle Fell's teaching certificate status.
The middle school student first reported Fell on March 3, telling a school resource deputy he had been talking to his teacher through Snapchat since December.
He reportedly told deputies that Fell sent him a nude photo on Jan. 2.
Following an investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Fell on May 12 on charges of lewd conduct with a student by an authority figure and felony transmission of harmful material to a minor.
She turned herself in on June 2 and was booked into the county jail.
