Two months into the 2025 hurricane season, some Tampa homeowners are still picking up the pieces from last year’s storms. But more help is now on the way. The Tampa City Council has approved an additional $2 million for its hurricane recovery program, bringing the total to $5.2 million. The funding is aimed at helping residents repair damage, cover insurance deductibles and get mortgage relief. Earlier this year, the city used $3.2 million in state funds for hurricane relief, but that money was restricted to low-income households. Council Member Lynn Hurtak said that wasn’t enough. “That doesn’t hit most of the people who are your average, everyday citizens who are working a regular, middle class job,” Hurtak said. The newly approved $2 million — made up primarily of leftover city funds — will expand eligibility to families earning up to 140% of the area median income.
