Description
A Pasco County man accused of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from homeowners for construction jobs and leaving the work unfinished faces multiple charges across different counties in the Tampa Bay area.
Benissa Smallwood says she hired Jason Wallace, 52, to remove walls, redo floors, countertops and cabinets in her Wesley Chapel home.
"Jason technically owes me about $47,250,” she said. "I was pretty much left with no floors, nothing in my kitchen, but my refrigerator plugged into an outlet. I had top cabinets because he threw away my bottom cabinets, countertops. He had all of my appliances on the patio. I had no bathroom. I had no laundry room."
Smallwood told the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office how he left her home in disarray. Prosecutors charged him with running a contracting business without a license and failing to get workers’ compensation insurance.
