Description
In a stunning shift from the U.S. Department of Justice, attorneys with the Civil Rights Division are not recommending any prison time for convicted ex-police officer Brett Hankison, who a jury found guilty of violating Breonna Taylor's civil rights in 2020.
Ahead of Hankison's sentencing hearing on July 21, the government filed a new memo recommending three years supervised release. Hankison was facing up to life in prison, but with his lack of a criminal history prior to the raid on Taylor's home, he was more realistically looking at several years in prison that federal prosecutors were expected to push for.
