A Cocke County Highway Department building was largely reduced to smoldering rubble after a fire broke out and caused an explosion on Tuesday morning. Mayor Mathis said a fire destroying one of their key support facilities felt like a punch in the gut for the county as it continues to rebuild from the devastating flooding from Hurricane Helene.
