Description
It has been 17 years since 32-year-old Shannon Lathrop went missing and her body was later discovered badly burned at a known dumping site not far from Bellingham.
Little is known about Lathrop's case which initially started as a missing persons case and then turned into a homicide case.
Lathrop was working on turning her life around when she went missing. She had been in and out of jail for drug charges and was working with a counselor for psychiatric help.
"A lot of Shannon's trouble was drug related. You know, I'm not a psychologist, but a lot of people use drugs to mitigate psychological issues when they're not medicated properly, and that's what the goal of the program was, to try to help her overcome that and get back into the society," said Whatcom County Sheriff's Detective Derek Jones.
