Description
Wilmington police are responding to an explosion on August 19, 2025.
The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) posted a video to their Facebook page explaining what happened.
Police were responding to a gas leak, saying a vehicle struck a gas line on New Centre Drive feeding the Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral, a nearby building, before driving away.
First responders searched the building when the explosion happened and causing a fire and sending debris into the street, police said.
The vet was supposed to open in September.
Police and fire officials stated that no one was inside the building when the blast occurred, except for fire personnel. Three firefighters were injured in the blast.
Two firefighters have non-life-threatening injuries and the third has severe burns on their hands and arms, according to the Wilmington Fire Department.
