Description
A Dunnellon man was arrested by a Citrus County deputy after Florida Highway Patrol troopers announced that he was the suspect in a hit-and-run crash that left a man seriously injured in Citrus Springs.
Jeffrey Ackroyd, 46, was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with leaving the scene of a crash.
According to the FHP, a 21-year-old man was hit by a motorized vehicle around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in Citrus Springs.
The victim was hospitalized due to serious injuries at the Ocala Regional Hospital.
Around the time of the incident on Aug. 30, two Ring cameras in two different houses nearby recorded a dark green pick-up truck driving by at the time of the event.
FHP and CCSO say the car linked to the scene is a Toyota pickup truck.
While the crash was not captured on video, the deputy stated that when he analyzed the two Ring cameras, he was able to see the same vehicle before and after impact around the time of the incident.
A loud "bang" can be heard in one of the videos reviewed by the deputy, according to his sworn statement of the arrest.
Officials said anonymous tips after the video was released also helped lead them to the vehicle involved.
At approximately 6:17 p.m. on Aug. 31, Ackroyd was placed under arrest, according to the arrest affidavit.
"The subject was hiding at his sister's house," the arrest affidavit says. "His truck was parked in the woods, next to the house."
Ackroyd was booked into the Citrus County Jail.
According to the arrest affidavit, the 21-year-old man is still in the intensive care unit at Ocala Regional Medical Center.
The CCSO affidavit says that the victim's injuries include a skull fracture, brain bleeding, a contusion to the eye and nose area, swelling, and road rash on his right arm and shoulder.
Officials say the 21-year-old man is stable for now.
