Description
Neighbors on Leila Street in Tampa woke up to some relief Wednesday morning, as city crews rolled in with heavy equipment to tackle drainage ditches that have long worried residents.
“I saw the trucks going down the street this morning, and I was wondering what was going on, and it's very exciting to come home to this,” neighbor Mindy Harris said. “It is nice to see them in your space.”
Crews have been grading and clearing ditches across Tampa, working to keep stormwater flowing and prevent flooding before the next big storm hits.
“We see the city out here all the time. We had to call them a few times for some problems and wanted to see what more they’re doing for the area,” Terrie Williams, another neighbor, added.
Since the beginning of this year, Mayor Jane Castor says crews have cleared more than 3,000 tons of debris from ditches and stormwater systems. The mayor stressed that the effort is urgent and targeted.
