Description
We approach the peak of hurricane season this week with zero spots featured for tropical development. Lots of dry air has made it hard for anything to get going this past week or so.
Other large-scale factors such as subsidence and some wind shear have made it difficult for tropical waves to get organized lately. Our most recent named storm was Fernand in the last week of August.
The broad pattern could change in the second half of September, but for now we continue with no tropical threats. Hurricane Kiko passes near Hawaii, but there are no threats in the Atlantic.
