Description
Swiss voters are set to decide on Sunday, June 14, 2026, on an initiative by the far-right SVP (Swiss People's Party) to cap the permanent resident population at 10 million by 2050 by limiting immigration quotas. In rural western Switzerland, two supporters of the proposal say the country must protect farmland and infrastructure. "Our infrastructure and the country itself aren't expandable," says winegrower Olivier Agassis, who is a regional representative of the SVP. "We're not going to be able to build on top of the Matterhorn. So we're just pouring more and more concrete. That's what worries me most when it comes to our farmland."
