Year In Search 2020
Google’s supporting agencies in both the Europe and Australia tapped the Kurator team to assist in both curation and rights clearance assistance for UGC content for one of the always highly anticipated year end videos covering the year in search highlighting the most talked about world events, cultural highlights, and viral videos.
The Fighters for Change
The Weedmaps creative team brought in the help of the Kurator team to curate and handle rights clearance for multiple creative and archival footage for their ‘The Fighters for Change’ spot which aired both on WM social channels but also debuted at the Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. fight in 2020.
RAM Trucks and its agency, Think Motive, were producing a video spot for a new campaign launch. After creating an initial campaign concept video, they hired Kurator to research and license montage footage to supplement their own proprietary shots of RAM trucks. Kurator returned with a selection of incredible footage, but also brought a unique idea new forward: RAM could license the branded content, shot for a complimentary brand, that inspired the original campaign concept.
Philadelphia Museum of Art
The Art of Wear
The Philadelphia Museum of Art produced a 2.5 minutes video montage to highlight the culture and fashion wear of the late 1960s. They hired Kurator to research and license archival footage as well as secure the rights to multiple well known songs from the era.
Find Your Rhythm
In 2018, renowned film studio Sherpas Cinema was hired to produce a campaign video for Caribbean Travel, sourced entirely from third-party Vimeo content. Kurator handled all licensing agreements, arranged talent releases for all models, and provided custom indemnification for over 20 videos from different sources, protecting all parties from fringe case legal risk, while Sherpas Cinemas retained complete creative control.
‘Supplies’ Music Video
Justin Timberlake & RCA Records
Kurator partnered with RCA records and Freenjoy to create a music video for Justin Timberlake’s hit song “Supplies.” The concept began with a powerful opening scene featuring a wall of televisions playing footage from recent social movements like #BlackLivesMatter, #MeToo, and #NoBanNoWall. Producers turned to Kurator to research, curate, and license over 100 clips from a wide variety of sources to complete this scene, allowing their own teams to focus on the big-picture narrative and remaining production.
Revolution of Love
Youtube Music & Janelle Monáe
Kurator supported the Youtube Music team in their creation of a short film about musician, singer and activist Janelle Monáe. Youtube Music hired Kurator to clear user generated content from Janell Monáe fans whom had recorded their experiences at her concerts. Kurator’s services saved Youtube Music valuable time. The resulting film, a behind-the-scenes look at Monáe’s life, work and activism, has over 5 million views on Youtube.
Captain America: Civil War
In 2016, Marvel Entertainment was producing their latest film, Captain America Civil War. A critical scene in the film takes place at the International Centre building in Vienna. While they could shoot a majority of that scene’s footage off site, producers wanted aerial footage of the building’s exterior to help define the location. Instead of sending a production team to Austria to film, they hired Kurator to find and license existing third-party footage, saving them valuable time and expense.
Midewestern Films & Michael Moore
Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 11/9 is a political documentary about the 2016 United States presidential election and the subsequent presidency of Donald Trump. Kurator helped Moore and the Midwestern Films team team source the only aerial footage taken of the Empire State Building shot on election night, and cleared the rights to the building. This shot highlights the impact of the election and Trumps connection to New York City. And it was also used to add context in the theatrical trailer.
My Dad, My Hero
Unilver & Dove
To celebrate Father’s Day, Unilever launched a campaign for their brand Dove, featuring special, real-life moment between fathers and their kids. To complete the project, their agency the Marketing Arm hired Kurator to curate and clear over 25 user generated clips from Youtube that fit the brief. Kurator’s experience and expertise in content curation and UGC licensing saved the client over 120 work hours.
