The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and toll plaza on the first full day of Maryland’s stay-at-home order, Tuesday March 31, 2020. The 4.3 mile bridge has a capacity of 1,500 vehicles per lane per hour, and has average daily traffic of 61,000 vehicles. Due to the COVID-19 (Corona virus) vehicle traffic was extremely light mid-afternoon, including two Safeway grocery delivery trucks headed East across the bridge.
