SPORTS - REVIEW OF 1962: In the Sports World, 1962 was a year of new record-breakers and old champs - a year of heroes and goats - a year that offered everything, most of all some thrill-packed moments. BASEBALL: The season was highlighted by a National League playoff and then the Giants met the Yankees. Chuck Hiller, a Giant rookie made the first National League, 4-Run homer in Series history, but the Yankees went on to win. HORSERACING: "Decidedly" came from behind to nose out four horses including "Admiral's Voyage" and "Ridan", and win the Kentucky Derby. In the Preakness, "Greek Money" dueled "Ridan" to the wire and came out on top. The third leg of the Triple Crown - the Belmont -"Jaipur" beat "Admiral's Voyage" in a photo finish. GOLF: A new star flashed across the pro golf horizon as Jack Nicklaus won the U.S. Open Title. Arnold Palmer was to be counted out, however, and he broke the record in winning the British crown. YACHT - RACING: President Kennedy was among the spectators as the U.S. "Weatherly" trounced the Australian challenger "Gretel" for the America's Cup. TRACK & FIELD: The U.S. lost a top track star when Frank Budd injured himself in the AAU l00-meter dash. Al Oerter set a world mark in the discus throw, while other world marks were: Dallas Long, shot put and Hal Connolly, hammer throw. The great mile race run saw Jim Beatty of Los Angeles win in the stretch. The first four men to finish all broke the four-minute mile. Russia's Valeri Brumel set a new high jump record. BASKETBALL: Cincinnati defeated Ohio State to take the basketball title for the second year in a row. From the bleachers to the ski slopes, sports fans were served a lavish menu.
